Some Colorado cities host one party to celebrate summer, but Aurora is taking it to the max with eight (count ’em, eight) Summer in the City events. The “tour” is designed as a way to get kids outside this summer and runs from Friday, June 1 through Wednesday, August 1. Each event offers FREE snacks, inflatables, board and field games, a chance to try golfing, arts & crafts and more.

If you love pets, then check out the 7th Annual Rocky Mountain Pet Expo on Saturday, June 2 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the National Western Complex. The expo is know for its Pet Fashion Show but there will also be 100+ exhibitors and vendors such as pet food manufacturers, humane societies, trainers, cat spay and neuter services, pet boarding resorts and kennels, in-home pet care and pet sitting services and more.

At 1 p.m. watch models strut their stuff on stage. At 3 p.m. is the “cutest pet” contest. Enter your pet and win prizes. All pets are welcome. If you bring your pet(s) please complete the Pet Waiver and bring it with you to register your animal.

A round of applause for Hunger Free Colorado which provides thousands of FREE meals daily to children under the age of 18. More than 500 sites are scattered across Colorado at parks, recreation centers, libraries, schools and churches, with FREE breakfasts, lunches, suppers and/or snacks available to kids through August.

There is no registration or special requirements other than the child must eat the meal on site (you can’t take it “to-go”). Meals are served to any child or teen based on a first-come, first-served basis. Many sites have fun, recreational activities such as arts and crafts, tutoring, mentoring, drama, or reading programs. Search for a site near you by going here.

The McDonald’s in Golden (2881 Youngfield St.) is in the middle of major renovations, but they’re still open. As their promo flyer states, “Construction is a drag, but our specials are worth the trip!” If you live, work or play nearby, it’s definitely worth a stop for big savings.

At this time, we’re unable to confirm any further details regarding percentages off or the last day of business for any of those locations. We’re assuming the close-out sales are similar to the one in Lakewood. However, we only have information on the Lakewood store.

UPDATE on Lakewood: As of now, everything in stock is 50% off. We personally investigated the sale over the weekend and the shelves are about half-full. We were unable to confirm, if you can still use manufacturer’s coupons — so many conflicting answers. (If you have them with you, give them a try. All they can do is tell you they’re no longer accepted. No harm, no foul.)

This information may change, but, for now, this is what we’ve been told from one of the employees. From May 24 to 28, everything remaining will be 70% off. Finally, whatever stock remains for the final few days of May will be 90% off.

This facility is permanently closed. Sharks, stingrays and snakes will soon fill Southwest Plaza. Don’t worry. It’s not some sort of scary movie, but all part of SeaQuest Interactive Aquariums. And yes, its inside a shopping mall. The new aquarium houses about 1,200 animals in more than 20,000 square feet of interactive adventures. The Grand Opening is set for June 2.
