High School Theater — Big Shows. Low Ticket Prices. What’s Playing This Spring??

You don’t have to shell out big bucks to see top-notch theater productions. High schools across the Denver metro area stage plays and musicals, showcasing some of the best local talent to be found. Far from bare bones, you’ll find fully-realized scenery, costumes, lighting, choreography and often live orchestras. The best part? Ticket prices ($5 to $12) are a fraction of what you’d pay for a “professional” show.

Don’t expect to be sitting on folding chairs in some gym. Many high schools house state-of-the-art theaters, perfect for immersing audiences in the experience.

High school theater is also one of the best ways to introduce children to the arts. Kids watching other kids perform not only instills a love of the arts, but helps many children envision themselves on stage.

Most high schools stage shows in the fall and spring. Runs are usually short, from a weekend to a week at most.

To buy tickets, it’s easiest to go to the school’s theater program website for full details. Some sell tickets online, others at the door. You may even need to call the school if you can’t find ticketing info online.
