A few weeks ago I binge-watched The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, a new Amazon Prime Original comedy and loved it. The series just took home the Golden Globe for Best Musical or Comedy TV Series. To celebrate, Amazon will make the show available for FREE for everyone this weekend. Anyone can watch the series at no cost starting Friday, January 12 at 12:01 a.m. local time through 11:59 p.m. local time on Monday, January 15.
In the show, Rachel Brosnahan (who also won a Golden Globe) stars as Miriam “Midge” Maisel, a 1958 New York City housewife who has everything she’s ever wanted — the prefect husband, two children and an elegant Upper West Side apartment. But when her life takes a surprise turn, she has to quickly decide what she’s good at — turn’s out, it’s stand-up comedy.
It’s fast-paced, blisteringly funny and not for the kiddos (this was the age of Lenny Bruce, so the language is most definitely “R” rated). No surprise that the dialog is rat-a-tat paced given that the series was created by Amy Sherman-Palladino who brought us Gilmore Girls. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel also stars Tony Shaloub, Alex Borstein, Michael Zegen and Marin Hinkle.
Of course, Amazon hopes that once you get a taste of Prime, you’ll subscribe. But this is a true freebie with no catch. To binge the series, you can use the Prime video app for TVs, connected devices including Fire TV and mobile devices, or use your desktop or laptop to watch online here.
For a list of all Prime Video compatible devices, go here. Most people can make it through the entire 8 episodes in three days and with Monday, a federal holiday, you get a bonus 24-hours of watch time. Enjoy!
