The second stage of the race is a time trial for men and women in and around Vail today, followed by a weekend in Denver. The Fall Hunting Classic returns to Bass Pro Shops on Saturday & Sunday, August 18 & 19. Looking for a furry friend? Saturday, August 18 may be just the day to find one. The Dumb Friends League is waiving adoption fees for all pets as part of Clear The Shelters. Animal shelters nationwide are participating in hopes of placing tens of thousands of pets with forever families. That means you can take home a new family member for FREE. Normally, it costs $50 to $250 to adopt. Both the Quebec Street Shelter (2080 S. Quebec St.) in Denver and Buddy Center (4556 Castleton Ct.) in Castle Rock will open at 10 a.m.

The Women in STEM group on the Anschutz Medical Campus is hosting its second Summer Science Day on Saturday, August 18 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is open to middle and high school girls. Children can attend without a guardian, but organizers encourage adult attendance as well.

This year’s theme is “Careers in Science”. Participants can take several lab tours and do fun science activities. Activities include jello brain surgery, building a model prosthetic, and chromatography. Refreshments will be provided.
