Boulder Open Space Intro Hike
Beautiful Boulder boasts more than 150 miles of hiking trails and 45,000 acres of open space, but the complex dog rules, temporary trail closures, parking issues and other variables can baffle newcomers and visitors. City naturalist Melissa Reed-Eckert leads a hike that explains much about Boulder Open Space & Mountain Parks on Sunday, June 23 from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m.
She uses the Enchanted Mesa trail to introduce the area’s ecology and history, talk about the myriad of activities permitted on the trail system and explain how to stay safe while exploring these lands. Meet at the Chautauqua Ranger Cottage for this fairly easy 2.5-mile hike with a 400-ft. elevation gain. Parking at Chautauqua is at a premium, so a fee system is in place. To avoid those parking fees, take advantage of the FREE weekend shuttle from the FREE parking facilities at CU Regent, New Vista High School or downtown parking garages.

DMNS Screens “Top Gun” in IMAX 3-D For $10
If you grew up in the 80s, you know “Top Gun” (and its soundtrack) very well. Well, now’s your chance to experience it again on the big screen…on a really, really big screen and in 3-D! The Denver Museum of Nature & Science is hosting a special screening at 7:30 p.m. each night from Thursday, July 27 to Saturday, July 29. Tickets for non-members are $9.95 for adults and $7.95 for juniors/children (18 and younger) and seniors. For convenience, order tickets online. (There are no additional fees. We tested the system.) It’s a rare opportunity to relive the 80s in such a special way at the movie theater again. Parents can take their kids, so they can see what mom and dad we’re watching as teens…and not on a smartphone. Heck, we didn’t even know what a cell phone was back then! (I’m keeping my fingers crossed for “Purple Rain” in IMAX 3-D!)

Target Café’s Happy Hour: Get Any Drink For $1
This deal is right on target for thirsty shoppers. Bargain hunters can definitely work up a thirst, after power shopping for an hour or two. (I always go to Target for one item and end up with a basketful of stuff. Am I alone?) After 5 p.m., the Target Café offers its Happy Hour promo — get any drink for just $1 at participating locations. It’s quite the savings, given a frozen lemonade regularly sells for $2.99. (For even more reference, a large ICEE sells for $2.09 and a large soft drink for $1.79. That’s not to say you have to order a large. It’s just the best savings for the Happy Hour promo.)
I’ve seen the deal advertised at several locations, but no promo dates listed. Therefore, I’m assuming it’s “for a limited time.” (Note: The deal does not apply to in-store Starbucks cafés.)
