Rooted in Reading is a FREE family program hosted by the Denver Botanic Gardens’ Helen Fowler Library that includes activities from Museo de las Americas, Environmental Learning for Kids and Art Garage. The event is Sunday, April 19, 2026, from noon to 3 p.m. in the Gardens’ Freyer – Newman Center atrium.

Local authors and illustrators Jolene Gutierrez, Brittany Cicchese, Carmela LaVigna Coyle and Cathy Morrison will be on hand for signings. Their books will be available for purchase at the event.
Other activities include coloring sheets, “Rooted in Reading” coloring bookmarks, free “Get Outside” kits (while supplies last), readings in the Helen Fowler Library for kids and a balloon artist.
There is also a special showing of the film “Amache Rose” featuring Jolene Gutierrez who will speak about her new inspiring and powerful picture book (cowritten by Minoru (Min) Tonai) “Unbreakable.”
This event is best suited for ages 6 to 12, however all ages are welcome.
Do note that while entry to this event is in the Atrium free, access to the Gardens and art galleries is separate and requires paid admission.
