All aboard! This freebie is on track to be a fun day for the whole family. Thursday, March 12, 2026, is the first FREE Day for 2026 at the Colorado Railroad Museum (17155 W. 44th Ave.) in Golden, thanks to the Scientific & Cultural Facilities District. The “train station” is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Due to huge demand, reservations are a MUST this year. Read on to learn how to get tickets.

The museum showcases more than just lots of trains. The main building is a replica of an 1880’s depot. It houses thousands of rare photographs, artifacts and documents, which highlight the colorful history of the railroads in Colorado for more than 125 years.
In addition, families and train enthusiasts can explore the railyard, roundhouse and library with one of the most comprehensive collections on all things train-related.
Due to the growing popularity of SCFD Free Days at the Colorado Railroad Museum, all tickets for these dates MUST be reserved online in advance!
Order FREE admission tickets here.
In 2025, the Museum was overwhelmed with guests arriving in the early morning for SCFD Free Days. Entry lines were long, many train rides were delayed, and the parking lot briefly overflowed as well.
Requiring advance reservations for these popular events will help the Museum prevent long lines, ensure parking availability, and reduce entry delays by spreading crowds throughout the day.
Train rides will be offered between 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for an additional fee:
$5 for adults (18 & older)
$2 for children (ages 2 to 17)
FREE for under age 2
Purchase ride tickets (includes admission) here.
If you miss the station on this one, there are two more FREE Days scheduled for 2025 — May 7 and October 1.
All aboard!
