12+ Places Where You Can Still Get Solar Eclipse Glasses in Denver on Monday

So you never found a pair of eclipse glasses, don’t despair. Head to a Solar Eclipse Party on Monday, August 21. We found more than a dozen, most of which will have a supply of solar eclipse glasses for distribution to participants. Even better, many events will have scientists on hand to explain exactly what’s going on. To snag a pair, be sure to arrive early. Worst case scenario, make a friend — hey, that’s what parties are for — and share glasses. After all, this is one of those almost once-in-a-lifetime moments. The last solar eclipse in the continental U.S. was 38 years ago and the next is 2045, so definitely worth your time. 9 Solar Eclipse Day Deals

The total solar eclipse is a special event, so a few businesses are shining a light on the rare occasion by offering a deal. (Unfortunately, the savings are not once-in-a-lifetime!) To be honest, we expected more businesses and restaurants to capitalize on the fervor by offering a one-day only special. However, we only found a few specials — all available on Monday, August 21 at participating locations. Some of the deals are regularly scheduled, but happen to fall on the momentous Monday. Fruehauf’s Moving Sale for Patio Furniture & More

Fruehauf’s started as a greenhouse and garden center in Boulder 40 years ago, but gradually morphed into a large retailer of patio and garden furniture, fountains, grills, gift items and accessories, plus seasonal Christmas trees and wreaths. The location is closing at year’s end and therefore is beginning its mega-moving sale. Currently, patio furniture is 3o% to 90% off and gift items and accessories are 30% off. These percentages could change as moving time nears. The new location opening in January 2018 is what the company calls “centrally located” in Westminster. Those in Boulder and Broomfield Counties do not necessarily agree. Wherever you live, if you’ve always wanted that TUCCI umbrella or other quality piece, now’s the time to look there. 1665 33rd St., Boulder, 303-449-9551.

Where To Get Free / Low-Cost Solar Eclipse Glasses

Unless you are incredibly lucky, you won’t find many solar eclipse glasses, though there may still be a few around on Sunday (see our update below). Our best tip: Head to a Solar Eclipse Party on August 21. There are more than a dozen popping up at museums, colleges, community centers and bars across town. Nearly all on our list here are providing FREE glasses to participants. Again, many spots will run out, so arrive early if you still need a pair.

A regular pair of sunglasses won’t cut it. And never ever look directly at the sun without proper protection. You need ones that are NASA-approved and ISO-certified. There is a huge demand for them, so, regardless of location, call ahead to confirm availability. It’s no fun (and a waste of gas and time) to drive around unnecessarily. Psst… Want To Help Us Promote Our New Book?

We’re going to let you in on a secret: Laura and Bryan are about to become published authors. Our sister-site Living on the Cheap is publishing a book. It’s not quite finished, but next month you’ll be able to get your hands on “The Ultimate Guide to Coupons,” which takes much of the great couponing information we’ve shared with MHOTC readers on our site and at workshops, adds more and puts it all together into an easy-to-read book.

You’ll be able to get “The Ultimate Guide to Coupons” as a downloadable PDF to read on your computer, as a printed paperback book or as a an ebook you can read on your Kindle or other tablet. All will have the same great information about how to use coupons to save money. We’re looking for a little help from our friends to get the word out. Go For a Free Ride in Driverless Shuttle, Thanks to RTD

If you want to experience the future, now’s your chance. We’ve all heard so much about self-driving cars and now you can sit back and enjoy such a ride for FREE. The Regional Transportation District (RTD), along with partner Transdev, invites the public to explore the future of public transit by stepping aboard a driverless shuttle.

On Wednesday, August 16, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the driverless vehicle will operate on a pre-established course at the Pepsi Center. The shuttle is completely electric and accommodates up to 12 people at a time, six seated and six standing. Even more futuristic, it has no steering wheel and no dedicated front or back, cruising at about 12 mph. The demo takes place in the Prius North parking lot, located at 1000 Chopper Circle. For more information about the demo and vehicle, click here. All aboard!

Free Shakespeare in the Park at Stapleton

Theater theatreThe Colorado Shakespeare Festival transforms Founders Green in Stapleton into swinging 1940s New York City in a hilarious rendition of ‘Taming of the Shrew’ on Thursday, Friday & Saturday, August 17 to 19 at 7 p.m. This is one of Shakespeare’s most popular battle of the sexes.
