There is no 2019 event. A literary event is born in Denver. The Colorado Book Festival is the only showcase of writing and books by Colorado authors, with programs about reading, literacy and, not least, the nitty-gritty process of writing something good. The FREE event is Saturday, March 3 from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Denver Public Library – Central Branch.

It’s the general public’s chance to talk with authors, attend reading and writing workshops, enjoy panels with experts in the field, tour the inside, outside and iconic architecture of the library including its massive art collection and, purchase books autographed by the authors. Bass Pro Shops posts a calendar full of FREE classes and workshops on fishing, camping, boating, hunting and other outdoor skills. Anglers might want to pay particular attention to the next two weekends which comprise the Spring Fishing Classic. The Aurora Symphony Orchestra is taking its show on the road to Brighton for a FREE concert on Friday, February 16 at 7:30 p.m. at The Armory Performing Arts Center. The Denver Golf Expo swings into Denver from Friday, February 9 to Sunday, February 11 at the Denver Mart. More than 12,000 beginning golfers, seasonal duffers, exhibitors and presenters will come together to get ready for this season’s play. Enthusiasts find everything golf from pro seminars to truckloads of equipment to FREE golf, discounts and show-only deals. Admission is $13, (seniors 50+/veterans and military pay $11 and kids 16 and younger $3), but gets you a ton of perks.

Here’s a great one for gardening enthusiasts itching for spring. McGuckin Hardware is hosting a FREE community seed swap on Saturday, February 3, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. It is a great way to kick off the upcoming growing season. This is the third annual such swap that is on the must-do list of local seed savers who would like to share, gardeners who would like to learn how to save seeds and even people who want to garden from seed.

Avoid bringing any seeds collected from hybrid plants, seed older than four years and of course, no GMO seed.
