Th annual Denver Oktoberfest is so large it spans two weekends. This FREE salute to Bavarian heritage features authentic German beer and fare, crafts, music, dance, oom-pah-pah entertainment and more. It runs in the Ballpark Neighborhood Friday and Saturday, September 22 & 23 and September 29 & 30.
Among the highlights: the bratwurst eating contest (September 23) pits locals against each other (all for charity) to see who can consume the most sausage in five minutes. The stein hoisting event challenges locals to see who can hold up two full 1.5 liter steins of beer for the longest period of time. Keg bowling is self-explanatory. And, of course, the popular Long Dog Derby (September 30) allows wiener dogs (dachshunds) to show of their racing skills.
Festival hours are 11 a.m. to midnight each day. The Ballpark Neighborhood encompasses Larimer Street from 20th to 22nd in downtown Denver. Prosit!
