In late June, Kroger announced that it would be closing 60 stores across the country over the next year or so — due to “financial strategy and low profitability”. And, unfortunately, (as of now) one location in Colorado is on the chopping block. The King Soopers at 5050 Arapahoe Rd. in Centennial will officially close its doors on August 16, 2025.

Our team personally visited the store on July 20, 2025 for a little investigative work, so you don’t have to make a special trip.
And, as of now, it’s business as usual at the location — no close-out discounts or specials. All of the store’s weekly ad prices and digital coupons are still in full effect.
There may be additional discounts as the final day of business approaches, but nothing has been officially confirmed.
We’ve reached out to King Soopers for clarification. We will update the post, if we confirm any closeout discounts or specials. (If you live or work nearby and spot any discounts, please let us know at bryan@milehighonthecheap.com.)
Safeway Store Closing
Unfortunately, King Soopers is not alone in its restructuring of stores.
Safeway is closing its Lakewood location on August 9, 2025.
And they are currently holding a closeout sale with varying discounts by department. Click here for the latest on the store’s closing sale.
