Here’s the latest scoop, ice cream lovers in the Mile High City! Handel’s Ice Cream is opening a new shop at the Lakeridge Shopping Center (16689 Washington St.) in Thornton on March 12, 2026. Handel’s Ice Cream invites the community to join them for a celebration of tradition, family and the “best ice cream on the planet”.

Ice cream fans can look forward to licking 48 rotating flavors, made fresh daily on-site. As a family-owned business with deep roots in the brand’s original Youngstown, Ohio heritage, they are thrilled to bring the beloved legacy to Colorado. This is the ice cream shop’s second location in Colorado. The first one is located at Southlands in Aurora.
The Thornton shop will be open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Grand Opening Giveaway
On March 12, 2026, the first 50 customers in line will receive FREE Ice Cream for a Year at the new Thornton shop — starting at 11 a.m. The reward includes one small cone or dish per week for 52 weeks.
You must be 18 years or older to participate in the grand opening giveaway.
The scoop shop will also have giveaways throughout the weekend to celebrate the grand opening, while supplies last.
