Genesis Gallery hosts a free family-friendly Day of the Dead celebration from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, November 7, 2025. The show is part of the gallery’s Young Curator Series and features works from the collection of international Mexican Paper Mache artist Carlos Lecanda’s “Las Catrinas”. Festivities include a processional by Azteca Grupo Huitzilopochtli, face painting, sugar skulls and more.

Genesis Gallery has created a new space for Dia de Los Muertos exhibitions dedicated to promoting young artists and community art.
“At first I was intimidated about doing an exhibition that featured unknown artists with so many established galleries featuring juried work,” says Curator Bianca Dominguez. “Then Carlos Lecanda offered to supplement our show with his work. It was not only an honor but a great vote of confidence in what our young artist have to offer to the spirit of the holiday.”
Dominguez and Lecanda hope to drive home the message that this holiday is about community engagement on all levels. “ This show is about community engaging with the true essence of Dia de Los Muertos , where all people can come together to celebrate our culture.”
The exhibition is sponsored by Lakewood United Methodist Church, MSU Denver Journey Through Our Heritage (JTOH), Chicano Humanities and Arts Council (CHAC), and the Colorado Folk Arts Council.
This unique holiday showcase features over 15 young and emerging artists who honor the legends of their grandparents as well as the iconic works of Lecanda.
