City Park Jazz has been cancelled for 2020. If possible, organizers may livestream performances from the Oriental Theater. Stay tuned! For more than 125 years jazz music has wafted across Denver’s City Park. This summer is no exception with City Park Jazz, Sundays from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., June 7 through August 9
at the Bandstand by City Park Pavilion on Ferril Lake. The 10-concert series is FREE with about 5,000 jazz fans attending each performance. For a map to the location, scroll to the bottom of this post. Here’s the calendar:
June 7 — The Burroughs
June 14 — Nelson Rangell
June 21 — Such
June 28 — Cast Iron Queens
July 5 — Annie Booth Big Band
July 12 — Otis Taylor
July 19 — Purnell Steen and Le Jazz Machine
July 26 — Brass Band Extravaganza (note time: 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.) featuring Pedicab Junction, Otone Brass Band and Brothers of Brass
August 2 — Los Bohemios
August 9 — Chris Daniels & The Kings featuring Freddi Gowdy
People can pack picnics (coolers with wheels are especially recommended) or purchase food on-site. Twenty local food and fashion trucks will be at the park.
Those in the know suggest you bring blankets or folding chairs and umbrellas or raingear in case of a Colorado shower. Concerts are held rain or shine.
Free parking is available at the Denver Zoo and Denver Museum of Nature & Science lots and garage.
A special lot adjacent to the Bandstand for seniors and the handicapped is available after 4 p.m. through the entrance from Colorado Blvd at 22nd or 23rd and following the road along the north side of the lake.
