Homestead For The Holidays at Golden History Park

POSTED BY
Laura

Take a step back in time as Homestead for the Holidays helps you experience the winter season just like the pioneers did. This family-friendly event from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, December 17, 2022, will have you strolling through the Golden History Park, taking in the colorful lights and decorations, making a craft that you get to take home, and basking in the season.

Volunteers will serve as interpreters within the historic structures to answer questions and guide your experience.

Homestead For The Holidays Highlights:

  • Wood stove cooking and authentic blacksmithing
  • Hands-on crafting (including a tin ornament you’ll take home)
  • Drawing silhouette portraits of your friends and family
  • Learning fun historic dances
  • Do-it-yourself “photo booth”

Tickets are $10 for non-member adults, $5 for non-member children, $5 for Member adults and Member children are free.

Advance registration is required. You can get tickets here.

The History Park is home to many of the original buildings from the old Pearce Ranch in Golden Gate Canyon. Thomas and Henrietta Pearce raised eight children on their ranch. It was one of the largest in the area by 1912.

Stroll through this park and imagine yourself growing potatoes or raising chickens as part of a homesteading family. Peek through the windows of real 1800s cabins and see other buildings from the ranch like the barn, chicken coop and two-seat outhouse.

Also, see the 1876 Guy Hill schoolhouse which was originally located in the canyon too, but on a different property. It served the needs of canyon locals until 1951.

1020 11th St., Golden.
