For more than 125 years jazz music has wafted across Denver’s City Park. This summer is no exception with City Park Jazz, Sundays from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., June 4 through August 6, 2023, at the Bandstand by City Park Pavilion on Ferril Lake. Though it may have “jazz” in the title, this year’s event features mambo, funk, brass. Latin, and of course, jazz. The 10-concert series is FREE with about 5,000 music fans attending each performance. For a map to the location, scroll to the bottom of this post. Here’s the calendar:

June 11 — Stafford Hunter & Jazz Explorations
June 18 — Dotsero
June 25 — Ritmo Jazz Latino
July 2 — Wellington Bullings
July 9 — Chris Daniels & the Kings
July 17 — 4rd Annual Brass Band Extravaganza, with Guerilla Fanfare and Bourbon Brass Band
July 23 — Otis Taylor
July 30 — The Burroughs
August 6 — La Pompe Jazz
People can pack picnics (coolers with wheels are especially recommended) or purchase food on-site. Local food trucks will be at the park.
No glass bottles. Only aluminum cans or plastic bottles.
Those in the know suggest you bring blankets or folding chairs and umbrellas or raingear in case of a Colorado shower. Concerts are held rain or shine.
Free parking is available at the Denver Zoo and Denver Museum of Nature & Science lots and garage.
There’s a FREE Bike Corral. Volunteers monitor the space in the City Park Pavilion from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Bring your own lock and you’ll get a claim ticket to retrieve your bike.
A special lot adjacent to the Bandstand for the handicapped is available after 4 p.m. through the entrance from Colorado Blvd at 22nd or 23rd and following the road along the north side of the lake.
