Sunday may be a big day for football, but it’s also a huge day for avocados! In the U.S., Super Bowl Sunday is the second biggest day in food consumption. (Guess what day is first? Yep, you’re right. Thanksgiving!) Among the many other popular snacks on the party table, guacamole is always the star attraction!
It’s estimated that more than eight million pounds of guacamole are dipped into with tortilla chips or spread on sandwiches on the big game day every year. (Did you know more avocados are sold for the big game day than any other time of the year?)
And anyone who makes the popular green dip knows it can be pricey. Avocados aren’t cheap! However, our team has done all the work for guac-makers on a budget by “scooping out” the best prices in town. This year, most of the prices increased significantly!
Plus, the size of the avocados on sale varies by store, so don’t forget to factor that in when gathering all of the ingredients. You might need fewer avocados, if they’re large or jumbo. (Size is noted, when possible.) And, as always, shop early for the best selection of ripe and ready-to-use little green fruits. (And, yes, technically it’s a fruit!)
Bagged vs. individual? Many stores sell bagged avocados (usually 4- to 6-ct.), which usually offer a slight discount per avocado versus buying them individually. However, in some cases, you’re getting better savings by purchasing avocados individually at the sale price rather than by the bag. Always do the math first!
The prices are valid through Sunday, February 13. Plus, stores may require their respective shopper’s loyalty card to get the discounted price.
