It’s worth getting up early on the mornings of Friday, May 17 through Sunday, May 19 for the colorful hot air balloon launch that highlights the 23rd annual Erie Town Fair & Balloon Festival. The balloons take off at at 6:15 a.m. each morning (weather permitting) from the Colorado National Golf Course. Other events take place on Saturday, May 18 elsewhere in Erie.
Historic Downtown hosts some 200 craft and food vendors from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the Garage Rats Car Show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Coal Creek Park is the daytime venue for such kids’ activities as inflatables, face painting, pedal cars and Tumble Bubbles and a live concert by Chase N the Dream, 6 p.m. to 9.m. and also the ongoing beer garden (everyone is IDed).
The most spectacularly colorful events are the Hot Air Balloon Night Glow hovering over Coal Creek Park at 7:30 p.m. and fireworks beginning at 9:15 p.m. on Saturday. Find FREE parking at Calvary Church – Erie (County Line Rd and Evans St.).
