Need Health Insurance? There’s Still Time To Sign Up For It

POSTED BY
Laura

Those who have lost their job and find themselves uninsured or are about to lose coverage are still able to get health insurance, but you need to act quickly. Connect for Health Colorado has opened an emergency Special Enrollment period that runs through Thursday, April 30. The coverage begins May 1 for those who signed up after April 3. More than 10,000 Coloradans so far have signed up for a health insurance plan through Connect for Health Colorado.

Coloradans who have had a change in job, income or living situation should contact Connect for Health Colorado to find what health care coverage and financial help could be available. You can compare plans and prices here.

You qualify if you:

  • Currently don’t have health insurance
  • Have recently lost your health insurance
  • Will lose your health insurance soon

Shop by April 30, 2020 and make these selections

  • Select the enrollment reason “Will lose or lost health insurance and/or have no other health coverage during the COVID-19 outbreak”
  • Enter the date you are applying as the qualifying life change event date

By taking these steps, you will not be asked by the health insurance company to provide documentation to verify your eligibility for the new Special Enrollment period.

Three easy ways to shop:

  • Apply and select a health insurance plan online
  • Call the Customer Service Center at 855-752-6749
  • Get help enrolling from a certified expert

Only people who are currently uninsured are eligible to enroll during this period. Anybody with already-existing plans through Connect for Health Colorado are not able to change their plans. People’s spouses and children who are also uninsured can enroll as well, even if one spouse or a child’s parent is already insured.

In addition to the COVID-19 Special Enrollment period, residents might qualify for a 60-day Special Enrollment period that allows them to sign up for a new health insurance plan or to change their current plan.

Business owners who are looking for options as employee insurance benefits end can direct employees to Connect for Health Colorado to enroll.

Connect for Health Colorado only sells health insurance plans with a full package of benefits, known as Qualified Health Plans. Plans sold outside of the Marketplace may only cover a limited number of injuries or diseases. The Colorado Division of Insurance is warning consumers about marketing organizations and agents using misleading tactics to sell products that are not Qualified Health Plans.

Connect for Health Colorado encourages residents to contact its trained and certified brokers and assisters, who continue to provide virtual and/or phone appointments.
