This one almost got past us, but we found it just in time! Today, Sunday, October 22 is the last day for this weekend freebie from Safeway. Get a FREE Ragú pasta sauce (24-oz.) and American Beauty pasta (16-oz.) at the grocery store — no purchase necessary. Download the Just For U coupon to your Safeway Club Card — under the category “Grains, Pastas & Sides.” The deal makes for a quick and easy family meal — just add some garlic bread and/or meatballs to make it “fancy.” Let’s hope Safeway follows King Soopers’ lead and makes a weekly freebie part of its regular marketing strategy. Calvary Church – Littleton celebrates the season with a Fall Festival at Littles Creek Park on Saturday, October 28 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be FREE food, activities, games, a costume parade and raffle prizes. Updated with some free flu shot clinics! This year’s influenza season is turning out to be nasty, with higher than average number of people hospitalized already. If you haven’t had a flu shot, it’s especially important to protect yourself and your family. Immunizations are widely available across the Front Range. For the best deal, check with your insurance plan or doctor to see if you can get one for FREE. In almost all cases, the answer is YES! Pharmacies and clinics can also contact your insurance company on your behalf.

There are two vaccines — the Trivalent (3-strains) and Quadrivalent (4-strains). Adults over the age of 65 may need the High Dose flu shot which does cost even more but is covered by Medicare. Quick, someone call the Ghostbusters! The past (and perhaps even the deceased) will come to life during the Ghost Walk Ghost Talk on Saturday, October 28 at one of Boulder’s most distinctive buildings – the Harbeck House. The spotlight shines on filmmaker Woody Allen the Denver Public Library (Central Branch) hosts two spooky movies this month on Sunday afternoons. Both screenings are FREE and there’s FREE popcorn, trivia and prizes. The first film is Resurrect Dead (2011), a documentary about Philadelphia residents working to solve the urban mystery of cryptic tiled messages appearing in city streets. Showtime is 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 22. Town Center at Aurora, once known as the Aurora Mall, is staging a Harvest Festival on Saturday, October 21 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the southwest parking lot by JCPenney. The fest has a dual purpose — that of a charity toy drive for Children’s Hospital Colorado Center for Cancer & Blood Disorders. The public can enjoy a variety of FREE activities including kids mini-pumpkin decorating (for the first 150 children), bounce houses, face painting, train rides, a photo booth, live music and more. Prize drawings (worth $300+) will be held at noon, 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. To enter the drawing you must purchase a ticket for $5 or donate an unwrapped new toy. There’s also a silent auction with sports memorabilia and on-site food trucks.

It’s almost “soup weather”! Although, here in Colorado, one day, it’s perfect for a hot bowl of soup and the next day you can be wearing shorts. On the Border Mexican Grill & Cantina got its start in October 1982. NBC Sports Group’s Sunday Night Football bus makes its first appearance of the season in the Denver area, making stops all over town on Saturday & Sunday, October 14 & 15 before it arrives at Sports Authority Field at Mile High as the Denver Broncos face the New York Giants.

We searched lots of pumpkin patches for the best price on the orange gourds. There may be sales in the weeks ahead. However, right now, the best regular price we found is at Trader Joe’s — a large pumpkin for just $2.99. Most other grocery stores are selling pumpkins for around $6. (Pumpkins at fall festivals and pumpkin patches tend to be higher in price.) For TJ’s locations, click here. St. Michael and All Angels Church’s annual Fall Rummage Sale is one of the biggest around with tons of well-priced furniture, household goods, sports equipment, glassware, clothing, toys and more. Entry is FREE October 13, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, October 14, 9 a.m. to noon. Saturday offers the best deals, because everything you can stuff into a provided paper grocery bag is $5. The second to the last of the year’s FREE Cult Classics at Central Park outdoor screenings is “Ghostbusters,” showing this evening, Friday, October 13.
