Saving money at the box office can be as tricky as the latest suspense thriller…or full of laughs like a comedy. However, we found 8 ways you can be a superstar saver at Regal Cinemas. Even those who must see a film on opening weekend can save a few bucks. The key is to plan ahead and be flexible. (However, Regal Cinemas seems to be making it harder for frugal film fans to save money, as they have stopped or changed some discounts in the past year.) We never pay full-price at the box office or concession stand, so we’re happy to share our money-saving tips and tricks with you. (Bryan is nearing 300,000 points on his Regal Crown Club, so he’s definitely our in-house expert.) Lights! Camera! Discounts!
Regal Crown Club – The club is the chain’s longtime loyalty program. As a member, be rewarded with discounts at the concession stand and earn points toward FREE movie tickets, popcorn, soft drinks and movie memorabilia. Earn points for every dollar spent at the box office and concession stand, with no limit. We’re always perplexed when we see people buying tickets without a RCC card. You’re going to the movies anyway, so why not take advantage of the discounts and rewards? Namely, members get 25% off candy every Monday and 50% off popcorn every Tuesday. Membership is FREE — sign-up at the box office.
Value Days – We love this discount because it includes new releases, which is a rarity in the world of movie discounts. Every Sunday, Meadows Stadium 12 (9355 Park Meadows Dr. in Littleton) offers tickets for just $7 each — all day. There is an upcharge of $3.50 for 3-D films. It is the lowest ticket price the chain offers in the Denver metro area. (Greenwood Plaza 12 was permanently closed in early February 2017.)
Value Days Concession Specials – The discount doesn’t just stop at the box office on Value Days. It continues at the concession stand with $2 hot dogs (reg. $4.75) and $3 nachos (reg. $6.25.) Again, the promo is only available at Meadows Stadium 12 on Sundays. Who knew you could see a blockbuster and have a snack for $10?
Matinee Discount – If you didn’t already know, matinee showtimes (before 6 p.m.) are always cheaper than evening shows — usually by $2. Plus, as an added bonus, there are fewer patrons, so it can be a much more quiet, relaxing experience. (Personally, we prefer it!)
Monthly Mobile Coupon – Download the Regal Cinemas app for a monthly mobile coupon delivered right to your smartphone on the first day of the month. The discounts have mainly been for combo specials (usually about 20% off) — just show the coupon on your mobile device for the discount. Plus, you can use the coupon more than once during the month.
Free Large Refills – Regal Cinemas offers a FREE refill (during the same visit) on a large popcorn. It’s a smart move for budget-conscious families or friends. Why pay for two or three small popcorns, when you can share one “big one” for less money? The offer also includes a FREE refill (during the same visit) on a large soft drink, but sharing is bit more complicated — unless you don’t mind sipping from the same cup. (MHOTC Tip: If you can only chomp on one bucket or sip one cup, still get your FREE refill after the movie and take it home.)
AARP Special – It pays to be older and wiser at Regal Cinemas. AARP members save $3 on a small drink and small popcorn combo. Just flash your AARP membership card at the concession stand.
Senior/Student/Military Discounts – These are not the best discounts, but, if there aren’t better savings available, you can always rely on these good ol’ stand-bys. The discounted tickets are usually just a buck or two off regular prices. A proper ID is required for any of the discounts. The discount cannot be combined with another offer or promo. Plus, the discounted price may only be available Monday through Thursday.
Now, you’re ready to write the script on how to save money at Regal Cinemas — just remember to combine deals (when possible) for true blockbuster savings. For example, check out a flick on a Tuesday afternoon (at a matinee discount) and swipe your Regal Crown Club at the box office for 50% off any size popcorn. It’s even better because each transaction earns points toward more discounts.
