Downtown Denver will be the site of Taste of India on Wednesday to Saturday, July 17 to 20, 2024. This vibrant celebration will commemorate the 40th anniversary of Denver’s Sister City relationship with Chennai, India. The multi-day event will take place over multiple downtown locations, including Denver’s Skyline Park. While many events require a ticket, the Taste of India Festival on Saturday, July 20, from noon to 10 p.m. is FREE and open to all.
Taste of India is designed to showcase the unique historical relationship between the two cities while also fostering a deep appreciation for Denver’s thriving Indian culture.
Taste of India guests can enjoy an extensive schedule of cultural pop-up activities, including live music and performances, a celebrity dinner led by renowned Denver Chef Dave Hadley, a yoga class, a Bharatanatyam dance lesson and more.
Here’s what’s planned:
Taste of India Festival — Saturday, July 20 from noon – 10 p.m. – FREE
Held in downtown Denver’s Skyline Park. The event will kick off at noon. Following remarks from local officials, you can experience a variety of musical and dance performances, a vendor market, food and drink options, and more.
Gentle Vinyasa with Samadhi Yoga Sangha — Wednesday, July 17 from 7:30 a.m. – 8:30 a.m
A Gentle Vinyasa yoga class taught by Julia Delzer at Samadhi Yoga Sangha. This Vinyasa class will link posture with breath to create a flowing movement sequence. Open to all skill levels, the class costs $20 per person with advanced registration requested here.
Bharatanatyam Dance with Sulakshana Jayaram – Wednesday, July 17 at 6 pm.
Experience the captivating art of Bharatanatyam dance during this one-hour class held at Dry Clean Only. Perfect for both beginners and seasoned dancers, immerse yourself in the traditional and authentic forms of Bharatanatyam, one of India’s oldest classical dance styles known for its grace, purity, tenderness and sculptural poses. The class is $20 per person with advanced registration requested here.
Denver to Chennai: Sister City Music Session with Rekha Ohal – Friday, July 19 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Head to Dazzle to enjoy a special performance featuring Denver jazz musician Rekha Ohal. Attendees can also enjoy a beverage tasting reception led by High Road Spirits, a boxed lunch and a cultural presentation on Chennai. Tickets are $30 each with advance registration here.
Mural Collaboration with Chennai artist A-Kill and Denver’s Koco Collab
The RiNo Art District and Denver Sister Cities International, in partnership with St+art India, are collaborating on a special mural to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Denver-Chennai Sister City Relationship.
Created by renowned Chennai street artist A-Kill and Denver’s dynamic duo, Koco Collab, this new RiNo mural will be installed over the course of the week, combining photo-realistic and figurative styles with vibrant, cross-cultural themes.
