POSTED BY
Laura

CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE! No matter your musical taste, Swallow Hill Music has a FREE jam session or performance group opportunity for you. These monthly events are a great way to learn new music styles, refine your techniques and expand your repertoire. They are FREE and open to everyone (members and non-members) alike ages 18 and older. Here’s what’s on the schedule:

Bluegrass Jam — Held the second Sunday of every month from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Try a song that you’ve been working on or learn new songs that you’ve never heard. Drop in, tune-up and chill out.

Irish Jam Session — Held the first Sunday of every month from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. This is a beginner/intermediate traditional Irish style music sessions. All instruments and songs welcome.

Open Jam Session — Held the second Saturday of every month from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Make music with others. Play in a band setting.

Blues Jam — Held the fourth Sunday of every month from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Experience all style of blues from Mississippi Delta to the south side of Chicago. Learn to play specific songs and get general tips on blues form.

Jazz Jam — Held the second Sunday of every month from noon to 2 p.m. Explore jazz in a fun, no-pressure setting. Play songs from the “standard” repertoire, discuss technique, improvisation and focus on making music. Singers and instrumentalists are welcome.

Denver Ukulele Community — Held the third and fifth Saturday of every month from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Ukulele players get together and share songs in a group setting. Open to players of all skill levels.

Performance Session — Held the first Saturday of every month from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Bring songs you’ve been working on and perform them in a group setting. Learn tips and tricks to play more effectively in a group and when accompanied by a singer. Open to all who sing or play an instrument.

Circle Singing — Held the fourth Saturday of every month from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sing for the fun of it. Circle singing is an improvisational, spontaneous experience. Swallow Hill calls it a “drum circle” for singers and takes inspiration from methods developed by Bobby McFerrin and his collaborators, where Circle Song leaders create parts on the spot and lead the group in making music. Sing harmony without sheet music, gain self-confidence and delight in creating music with others. This is a “mistake-free” zone for improvisational community singing.

Jams all take place at Swallow Hill Music, 71 E. Yale Ave., Denver, 303-777-1003.
