Paid content. Put this at the top of your weekend’s “must-do” list. The Jeffco Fair & Festival is the biggest celebration of the summer, one that puts a new spin on previous fairs and festivals held throughout the long history of Jefferson County. Lasting four days, Thursday to Sunday, August 10 to 13, the fair runs the gamut from 4-H exhibits, pie eating contest and professional rodeos to pro wrestling (humans not steers) and Gladius the Show, with high-flying aerial stunts and chariot racing.
More than 250 cowboys and cowgirls will kick up some dust at one of Colorado’s largest professional rodeos on August 12. Contestants will compete for top honors in bareback riding, steer wresting, team roping, saddle bronc riding, tie-down roping, barrel racing and bull riding.
Musical artists and bands will fill the Main stage. That Eighties Band helps kick off the fair on August 10. The Tyler Walker Band headlines on August 11. Buckstein and his band The Heard are center stage on August 12. And on August 13, catch The Beverly Belles – Victory Swingtime USO Show, an Andrews Sisters inspired performance.
On August 11 at 7:45 p.m. the spotlight shifts to Gladius the Show, which transports audiences to ancient times. The beings of Gladius must find peace after an ancient power is uncovered and threatens to disrupt their universe. The horse gods must guide this magical world as it achieves its destiny through dangerous stunts and acrobatics.
You’ll see high flying aerial stunts from the horses to the air, battles, chariot races, acrobatic vaulting tethered by pole dancing, fire manipulation, Roman riding with aerial silks, and much more. Most of all, the stunning horses and love for them will thread throughout. The show features 20 horses (Belgians, Andalusians, Minis, Percherons, and Quarter Horses), professional equestrian performers and acrobats. The show runs 90 minutes with a short intermission.
Jeffco Fair & Festival admission is $5 for those 13 and older, FREE for ages 12 and younger. Tickets to the rodeo, Gladius the Show and pro wrestling start at $15. First responders, active military and veterans get FREE entry on Sunday.
