The City of Boulder is again giving away tulip bulbs starting on Wednesday, August 23, 2023. The distribution of FREE bulbs begins at 10 a.m. at a variety of downtown Boulder businesses. Interested residents may visit any one of the participating locations when they are open to pick-up a free bag of bulbs.
Tulip bulbs will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis. The locations will be updated as they run out, and businesses will have posters in their windows as well to indicate the availability of the free bulbs.
A donation to the PLAY Boulder Foundation will be strongly encouraged at pick-up! Tulip bulbs will belimited to one bag per family.
There are more than 5,500 bulbs in all (about 15 to a bag) and each family is limited to just one bag. You’ll find a list and map of participating locations as well as their hours of operation on the Tulip Bulb Giveaway site.
Where do they come from? Parks and Recreation staff changes the variety and color of the tulips planted on the Pearl Street Mall every year to provide a unique and impressive display each spring.
After the bloom, staff removes the bulbs to make way for summer plantings, storing them until the annual tulip bulb giveaway each August.
