Four hundred bookstores nationwide — several in Colorado — celebrate Independent Bookstore Day on Saturday, April 27. Living up to their “independent” aspect, each one plans its own way to celebrate. Every store is unique and independent, and every party is different.
But in addition to authors, live music, cupcakes, scavenger hunts, kids events, art tables, readings, barbecues, contests, and other fun stuff, there are exclusive books and literary items that you can only get on that day. Not before. Not after. Not online.
The Tattered Cover’s four metro Denver stores plan activities, exclusive, limited-edition products and giveaways.
At the Boulder Book Store they are celebrating drinks, snacks, giveaways, a Harry Potter-themed House Tournament (with prizes) and a live recording of the KGNU & BBS Radio Bookclub show, featuring Peter Heller. House Sorting beings at 12:30 p.m. House Tournament begins at 1 p.m. Interview with Peter Heller and Adult party begins at 2:30 p.m.
Other participating indie bookstores in Colorado are BookBar in Denver, Second Star To The Right in Denver, Welcome To The Bookstore in Brighton, Old Firehouse Books in Fort Collins, Macdonald Bookshop in Estes Park and NextPage in Frisco.
