It’s challenging nowadays for bargain hunters to get any items for FREE at the grocery store. There was once a time you could bag lots of items at no cost using coupons on top of sale prices. (Remember when grocery stores doubled or tripled coupons?) Those days are long gone! With so many coupon restrictions and limiting store policies, it’s not often you can pick up an item and not pay a single cent anymore.

However, thanks to Safeway’s Saturday Steal of the Week giveaway, smart shoppers can grab one or two items for FREE on select weekends — usually once or twice every month.
The Saturday Steal of the Week digital coupon is available through the grocery chain’s Safeway for U program. You must download the coupon to your account.
When it’s available, find the coupon in your account online under the “FREE Offers” category. In the Safeway app, the coupon can be found under “Events”.
You may also find it under its respective category (“Dairy, Eggs & Cheese”, “Breakfast & Cereal”, etc.) — just depends on what item is being given away on that respective Saturday.
MHOTC Tip: Bargain hunters often clear the shelves by early afternoon on Saturday. Therefore, shop early on Saturday — if it’s an item you really want. The FREE item is only available while supplies last. (NOTE: Safeway does not issue rain checks for digital offers.)
