City Floral, Denver’s oldest garden center, is marking Colorado’s 150th birthday with a two-week giveaway of 150 Columbine plants, honoring Colorado’s official state flower. The giveaway starts on Saturday, August 1, 2026. City Floral will give away 10 Columbine plants per day for FREE to customers (first-come, first-serve) who visit the greenhouse in Denver’s Mayfair neighborhood. When the daily plant supply runs out, customers will receive Colorado Blue Columbine seed packets along with growing instructions.

City Floral opens at 9 a.m. Mondays through Saturdays and at 10 a.m. on Sundays. Get there early if you want one of the coveted plants.
The Colorado Blue Columbine, which traditionally blooms in Denver late May to early July, is being grown out of season in City Floral’s three-acre greenhouse facility in honor of the state’s sesquicentennial
“City Floral has been part of Colorado’s gardening story for 115 of its 150 years,” said Candace Wickstrom, owner of City Floral. “Bloom Colorado 150 is our way of honoring that history, giving back to the community that supports us, creating more Columbine blooms for many years to come.”
Colorado Blue Columbine seed packets will also be distributed through GreenHouse.shop, City Floral’s online retail platform, and shared with local libraries, community gardens, and at Mayfair neighborhood events.
The goal is for Colorado Blue Columbines planted from City Floral seeds and Columbine greenhouse stock to bloom in the 2027 season. City Floral’s horticulture staff will be available throughout August to offer guidance on growing Columbines and other Colorado perennials.
