Dolly was so much more than just a songwriter and musician. The cultural icon could do it all and she did — including acting in many great movies. And AMC Theatres is celebrating her movie stardom by bringing back two of her biggest hits on the big screen for a limited time — Steel Magnolias and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.

Steel Magnolias
Directed by Herbert Ross, Steel Magnolias (1989) was adapted from Robert Harling’s stage play of the same name.
The hit movie (with many die-hard fans) is an Oscar-nominated drama featuring Dolly as part of an ensemble of established actresses — including Olympia Dukakis, Sally Field, Daryl Hannah, Shirley MacLaine and Julia Roberts.
If you’ve never seen it, be prepared with lots of tissues!
The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas
The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (1982) was adapted from hit Broadway musical.
The musical comedy was directed by Colin Higgins and stars Burt Reynolds as the town sheriff and Dolly as the owner of the “Chicken Ranch”. The story follows their efforts to keep the house open, after it’s targeted by a moral crusader played by Dom DeLuise.
The film is known for its signature scene of Dolly singing her megahit I Will Always Love You.
AMC Theatres Limited Engagement
From August 28 to September 2, 2026, AMC Theatres is bringing back the two Dolly hit movies — as part of its popular discounted Fan Faves series.
The movies will play at select locations with two matinee screenings daily (one showing of each title) when possible.
The tickets for the series are discounted (usually around $7), but the price varies by location.

Harkins Theatres is also screening both Steel Magnolias and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas on August 29 and 30, 2026.
Tickets are just $6 each at the box office.
And, in typically Dolly fashion, all proceeds from the screenings will benefit Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.
