With the closing of all Colorado Savers stores, the MHOTC team has been on the search for new-to-us thrift stores. We just added Sister Carmen Thrift Store in Lafayette to our list. The store supports the programs and services of Sister Carmen Community Center, which provides help to individuals and families in East Boulder County. As with most thrift stores, you’ll find a ton of low-cost clothing, small appliances, toys, shoes, linens, household goods, furniture and much more. What impressed me the most is the wide variety of sales each month, and even a frequent shopper program, on top of the low prices.
For instance, on “Throwback Thursday” (March 23, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.) adult clothes are 99¢ and kids clothes are 33¢. During “Halfy Hour” (March 27, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.) everything is 50% off. A Kitchen Item sale (on Saturday, March 18) has all kitchen items priced at 10¢. During a New Clothing Event (Tuesday, March 21) all new clothing with tags is $3. And the last sale of the month on Friday, March 31 is the 50¢ cord sale — anything with an electrical cord such as a coffee maker, alarm clock, lamp, etc. Join their email list or check their Facebook page for sale dates each month.
The shop also has a rewards program. You earn a star for every $15 spent in a transaction. Those who visit often, but don’t spend very much can also earn rewards stars. Make 4+ visits each week and get a 10% off coupon.
Open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. (On the first Wednesday of each month, opens at 11 a.m.) 701 Baseline Rd., Lafayette, 303-665-4342.
