We always get mixed messages from Regal staff. Apparently, there are a few locations still offering Economy pricing. We noticed the price change a few weeks ago, but could not confirm the change until now. Regal Cinemas quietly ended its Economy ticket pricing. The chain used to offer a discount for showings Monday through Thursday before 5 p.m. for movies that have been in release for, at least, 10 days. Now, all matinée tickets (excluding 3-D, IMAX and RPX, which are priced higher) are regular price — $9.79 for adults and $8.79 for seniors/children. (After 5 p.m., ticket prices increase by $2.) We don’t quite understand the reasons behind Regal’s changes (including the recent “improvements” to its loyalty program Regal Crown Club), given more and more people are staying home to watch movies. We love the movies, but it’s getting harder to find a reason to go with high ticket prices and the fact that most movies are mediocre. Note: As of now, Regal Cinemas will continue to offer its Value Days promo at Greenwood Plaza and Meadow Stadium on Sundays. Let’s hope it’s not on the chopping block anytime soon.
Thank you for reporting this and for your comments we all agree with. AMC recently stopped their $5 weekday matinee prices, and now are nearly $7. We know that theaters mostly make their $ through concessions, and why so many theaters like AMC have gone to serveing liquor from a bar and meals like chicken sandwiches and such.
