Golden History Museum Celebrates Grand Re-Opening

POSTED BY
Bryan

The Golden History Museum is ready for its Grand Re-Opening on Saturday, June 23 at 10 a.m. It’s going to be a big day city and admission is FREE. (Fun Fact: Bryan’s parents have lived in Golden for more than 40 years! His mother is our lookout for deals and discounts in the area.)

To kick-off the festivities, the Westernaires will ride up to the museum, straight out of Golden’s pioneer past.  After that, the Golden Chamber of Commerce will conduct a ribbon-cutting ceremony, marking the museum’s official re-opening.

Then, the public will get its first chance to enter the museum and see all the exciting changes.  Check out the new hands-on children’s section, where kids can build things, as they learn about Golden’s historic brick industry.  The new Legendary People gallery features some of Golden’s most notable women of the past 160 years.  The Salon is a new area set up for presentations, discussions, and movies.  This weekend, they’ll be showing a silent movie that was filmed in Golden in 1909–catch some fascinating views of the Clear Creek valley, B.C. (before Coors)!  The History Lab will allow visitors to delve into the museum’s treasure trove of historic photos and documents.

The new exhibit on Magic Mountain ties in with the summer’s archaeological dig.  The Denver Museum of Nature and Science will be digging again this summer to uncover evidence of Golden’s earliest residents, who lived “in the city” thousands of years ago.  The exhibit then skips ahead to show the short-lived Magic Mountain amusement park, started in the 1950s by Disney executives.  The park later became Heritage Square.

The Westernaires will hang around for a while outside the museum, with a trick roping display at 11 a.m. and pony rides at 12:30 p.m.

Before you leave, check out the museum’s book shop.  They have the best selection of Golden history books you’ll find anywhere…of course!

The Golden History Museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., six days a week — closed on Tuesdays.
