Music can help a child in so many ways, but instruments and lessons cost money. Often the kids who need the gift of music find it out of reach. That’s where the Music Appreciation Project (MAP) comes in. The organization was created by a small group of area musicians. The goal: to bring music into the lives of young people with the interest, but not the means, to follow their musical dreams. A benefit concert to help at-risk youth obtain musical equipment is planned for Friday, June 3 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Rockley Music. The showcase is FREE, as is wine and snacks, though donations are welcome. Local professional musicians, as well as talented young players will perform. This way audiences get the chance to hear many of the kids who have benefited from donated instruments and lessons. Questions? Email MusicApPro@gmail.com. 8555 W. Colfax Ave., Lakewood.
