Being furloughed without pay from a job is always difficult, but coming right on the heels of the holidays when budgets are further stretched compounds the financial misery. Several food panties are waiving their normal income requirements to help furloughed government employees. Here are a few that we know about (and please let us know if there are others):
The Jewish Family Food Service’s Weinberg Food Pantry is waiving normal income requirements for government employees who are currently not being paid. The pantry asks furloughed government workers to call 720-248-4716 and leave name and phone number, explaining the situation.
The pantry says it returns calls as soon as possible and notes that services are available to people of all faiths and backgrounds. It is located at 3201 S. Tamarac Dr., Denver. Hours are Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
While the Food Bank of the Rockies does not distribute to the public directly, it sets up distribution centers in Colorado and Wyoming. Click here for dates and locations.
