Wheat Ridge hosts a weekend of FREE family fun that highlights the community’s unique character and culture Friday to Sunday, September 11 to 13. RidgeFest Deconstructed will feature live bluegrass music, a classic car show, chalk art, plein art art, kids’ activities and more. Several area businesses will offer food and drink deals during RidgeFest weekend. Note: Details are subject to change. If local or state guidelines change and no longer permit this event, RidgeFest will move to a completely virtual model.
Here are just some of the activities:
Create a beautiful succulent planter at Al’s Pine Garden (6815 W 44th Avenue) during RidgeFest. Advanced registration is required for this activity. Your ticket will cover a 4-hour window. You may visit Al’s any time during that time window to create your succulent planter at the succulent planter station. Written instructions will be available at the station. Your finished planter will cost $5. This activity is available on Saturday, September 12 and Sunday, September 13.
Join Personal Achievement Martial Arts on Saturday, September 12 (Location TBD) for field day games. This activity is for children 4 to 12 years old. There are two sessions. Space is limited and advanced registration is required.
This year, RidgeFest will feature live chalk and plein air art. Each of these event features requires a ticket. Tickets are timed entry, meaning attendees must arrive, enjoy the art, and leave within their allotted time to ensure appropriate crowd control.
En plein air is a French expression meaning “in the open air”, and refers to the act of painting outdoors with the artist’s subject in full view. Plein air artists capture the spirit and essence of a landscape or subject by incorporating natural light, color and movement into their works. This is at 5 Fridges Farm (11100 W 38th Avenue) on Sunday, September 13 from 8 a.m. until noon. Space is limited and advanced registration is required.
The chalk art will take place from noon until 5 p.m. on Sunday, September 13 (Location TBD). Participants will get to watch as artists complete their amazing chalk masterpieces. Space is limited and advanced registration is required.
