The Castle Rock “Lighting of the Star” has been a community event shared by residents dating back to 1936. The same spirit of volunteerism, generosity and love of tradition exists today as Castle Rock businesses and residents prepare to celebrate Starlighting downtown on Saturday, November 19, 2022. The FREE event features caroling, dancing, Santa Claus, hot chocolate, Kids Zone and more — all along Wilcox Square.
Ongoing festivities around the square and at Festival Park are from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. The actual Star lighting ceremony will begin at 5 p.m., with the star lit about 5:30 p.m., followed immediately by fireworks.
Santa Claus will be available for visits at the Castle Rock Firehouse from 2 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.
Performing on the Main Stage prior to the ceremony will be Biff Gore “The Ambassador of Soul”.
Other entertainers include the Original Dickens Carolers, Salvation Army Band, Spotlight Theatre, Castle Rock Children’s Choir, La Roche Academy of Dance, Lindsey Giffey and Hatori.
The Castle Rock Professional Firefighters will host their 87th Annual Chili Supper from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the fire station (300 Perry St.). They will be serving beef-chili, Nachos, hot dogs, drinks and dessert.
