We know this summer tradition isn’t necessarily “cheap”, but it sure is lots of fun. (Actually, 15 bucks for a concert, comedian and flick isn’t so bad, right?) The Denver Film Society and Denver Arts & Venues are once again hosting Film on the Rocks at the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre. (Could you ask for a better backdrop?) The 2017 season includes 9 movies throughout the summer, including cult-classics and past fan-favorites. Each film is preceded by a live concert and local comedian. Here’s the line-up for the 18th season: May 15 – Superbad, May 22 – Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, May 25 – Long Strange Trip, June 5 – Dirty Dancing, June 12 – TBA: Fan-Voted Wedding Film — Vote Here, June 19 – The Fifth Element, July 17 – The LEGO Movie, July 20 – The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert and September 11 – Twister. Gates open 6:30 p.m., bands play at 7 p.m. and the movies start at dusk (around 8:30 p.m.) General admission tickets are $15 each. You can purchase tickets online. However, a $3 convenience fee per ticket applies. (Purchase tickets in advance, because they’re higher on the day of the show at the Red Rocks box office.) Parking is FREE.
