The New Belgium Brewing Co was born and raised in Fort Collins, but its Tour de Fat, a major bicycling festival, has grown into a nationwide event now in its 16th season. It started on May 21 in Washington, D.C. and winds up on October 1 in Tempe, AZ. Front Range stops are in Civic Center Park (LaPorte Ave. and N. Howes St.) in Fort Collins on Saturday, September 3 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on the west side of City Park in Denver on Saturday, September 10 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Each event brings together passionate bike lovers for a FREE day of two-wheeled revelry, while raising money for local nonprofits, usually bike advocacy groups for trail maintenance, safety education, lobbying for better bicycle communities and other initiatives. However, you can pre-register and get some cool limited-edition Tour de Fat schwag, if you make a donation. Events feature a fab costumed bicycle parade, New Belgium beer (0f course!), entertainment, music, local food, unusual bike contests and more.
