MHOTC loves local businesses and always support ’em, whenever possible. We especially love them, when they give back to the community, too. A few years ago, I found a fun, little boutique on a lazy Saturday afternoon strolling Broadway. (I always stop in, when I go to the movies at the Mayan Theater or grab a scoop at Sweet Action Ice Cream. And, yes, you can shop with your cone in hand!) And it was love at first sight. Hope Tank (64 Broadway) sells many unique products made by local artisans — “stuff” you just won’t find any place else.
However, it gets even better because a portion of every item sold supports a local charitable organization or cause. (I appreciate the fact that it shines a spotlight on many smaller non-profits who rarely get proper attention.)
I’m a big fan of fun, quirky gifts and Hope Tank fits the bill perfectly. Among many trinkets and treasures, they carry jewelry, t-shirts, baby/children’s gifts, cards, home décor and much more. (I can never get enough of snarky greeting cards!)
To give you a sense of its eclectic merchandise, I bought a rubber cat mask there a few months ago. (Don’t judge! It’s provided hours of fun for friends and family. Plus, my cat gets really confused when I wake him from one of his numerous daily naps with it on.)
While they carry a staple of regular merchandise, its stock changes every so often with new seasonal items, toys, greeting cards and more. Check its Facebook page for product updates.
With each purchase, the store clerk will inform you which charity your item supports. I like to pass the information along to the gift recipient on a little note card — a gift that gives back! (However, truth be told, I’ve bought more stuff for myself than others.)
The friendly boutique is open every day from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. If you go, tell them Bryan from MHOTC sent you! (No Hope Tank did not sponsor this post. It’s just one of my favorite boutiques, among many around town.)
Do you have a favorite local boutique for gifts and cards?
I look forward to our next chat. And, remember, there’s always a deal. You just need to look for it. :-)
