The Colorado Garden and Home Show provides nine days of inspiration, advice and instruction on home and garden projects. Learn at 50 FREE educational seminars and how-to demonstrations by gardening and home improvement experts, find inspiration from 14 professionally landscaped gardens and glean information and advice at more than 1,400 exhibitors’ booths, Saturday, February 11 through Sunday, February 19. Travel the World (or Aurora) Through Chocolate

Denver’s German-Style Christkindl Market

In the cities Germany, Austria and the German-speaking part of Switzerland, vendors set up stalls in the plaza around the cathedral for the annual Christkindlmarkt to sell charming gift items, candles, sweets, ornaments and all manner of holiday goodies. Denver’s 2011 Christkindl Market takes place downtown in Skyline Park (Arapahoe between 16th and 18th), from November 25 through December 23. Hours are Sunday through Wednesday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Thursday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., with special extended evening hours for the Parade of Lights, December 2 & 3. Vendors from Germany and other European countries and local artisans will sell quality, handcrafted gift items such as traditional hand-carved wooden figurines, handmade candles and ornaments. Traditional German food, pastries, and candy will be featured. FREE live entertainment is also on the docket. Pearl Street Stampede Pep Rally

Every Friday evening before University of Colorado home game, families and football fans head to Downtown Boulder for the Pearl Street Stampede, an old-fashioned parade and pep rally. At 7 p.m., an antique CU fire truck leads the procession, followed by the school’s Golden Buffalo Marching Band, the CU football team and cheerleaders. It starts at the Boulder Country Courthouse (1300 block) and ends with a pep rally in the parking lot of the former Daily Camera building (11th and Pearl). Remaining dates are Thursday, November 3 and Friday, November 11. Go Buffs!

Winner…Heather G. At its most basic, The Blind Cafe is dinner and music in complete darkness. In reality it is an award-winning born-in-Boulder event that has toured to other cities and returns to the First Baptist Church of Boulder to help guests understand (feel, actually) a world without sight. ABC News reported on a Blind Cafe evening in Austin, Texas, earlier this year. Created by musician Brian “Rosh” Rocheleau who initially planned a performance in the dark to remove visual distractions for the audience, it has matured into an unforgettable community event consisting of a gluten- and dairy-free dinner created by a local chef and served by a blind waitstaff followed by a Q&A discussion – plus music and poetry. The Blind Cafe gave two tickets (value $90) for the evening of Thursday, November 10 for a MHOTC drawing. For those whose names were not drawn, admission to The Blind Cafe is $45 per adult ($35 for students and seniors), with proceeds going to Boulder Guide Dog Puppy Raisers.

Boulder Fringe Festival’s Free & Low-Cost Events

Cutting-edge creativity reigns when the annual Boulder International Fringe Festival kicks off tomorrow, August 17, and continues through Sunday, August 28, with some 200 performances and workshops in the realms of theater, dance, music and film/video. The motto: “All unjuried. All uncensored. All in Boulder.” Performances take place all over town, including both indoor and outdoor venues. Some events are FREE. The highest-priced tickets this year are just $15. A 5-show Frequent Fringer pass is $50, and a 10-show pass is $80. An all-show pass is $190 ($150 for students and seniors).
