The Pearl Street Stampede to encourage the University of Colorado football team continues this year on the Friday evening before every home game. Show up at Boulder’s Pearl Street Mall for FREE festivities to support the Colorado Buffalos. The university marching band starts playing at 7 p.m. on the Courthouse lawn, then marches westward to the Daily Camera parking lot at 11th with the players and cheerleaders following. The players high-five enraptured kids along the route. The musical grand finale takes place in the Daily Camera parking lot at 11th and Pearl. Go Buffs!

The Colorado State Fair, August 27 through September 6, is cheap to begin with (regular admission, $5 on weekdays, $8 on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays), but some days and some ways are even cheaper than others. Pick up an Orange Crush and look for the coupon on the back of the can for $1 off gate admission on any Friday, Saturday or Sunday.You must bring the can, which will be recycled, for the deal. The $80 Mega Pass is an all-you-can-ride carnival pass, including gate admission, good for all 11 days of the fair. You can buy through Ticketmaster outlets or at the Colorado State Fair box office. Other values: Sunday Aug. 29 is Military Appreciation Day (active military admitted FREE and $5 off rodeo tickets; retired, discharged and family $3 off gate admission). Loaf ‘n Jug has two coupon deals. Pick up coupons for Super Mondays with BOGO entry (Aug. 30 and Sept. 6) and Discount Days with $3 admission on Monday, Aug. 30, Thursday, Sept. 2 and Monday, Sept. 6. Pepsi Dollar Day is Tuesday, Aug. 31 with admission, rides and rodeo tickets at just $1 each. On Wednesday, Sept. 1, is Centura Health Senior Day with FREE admission – no coupon required for 60-plus. Gates are open daily from 10 a.m. to 12 midnight, but the box office doesn’t open till noon and is closed on Sunday. The fairgrounds are located at 1001 Beulah Ave., Pueblo. CBS4 Denver is sponsoring a FREE night at The Wildlife Experience, Wednesday, Aug. 25 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Not only will the CBS4 morning news team be on hand to mix and mingle, but participants can explore Globeology, the nation’s first live-action 3D exhibit. Free Attraction & Museum Passes Thru Jeffco Library

The Jefferson County Public Library offers FREE passes to the Butterfly Pavilion, MCA Denver, Denver Firefighters Museum, Denver Museum of Miniatures, Dolls & Toys, Dinosaur Ridge, Byers-Evans House, and Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum. Passes are available in limited quantities each day and allow different numbers of people to enter the attraction at no cost. Note that you must have a current JCPL library card (you’ll need the number handy to get your pass) but any Colorado resident can get a card as long as you present some sort of photo ID at any one of their library locations. Because the Culture Pass page can be sorted by date, the simplest method is to pick your day and see what’s available. We also noticed that the Butterfly Pavilion was booked almost 30 days out, so if butterflies are top of your list, sort by attraction and 30 days.

The Denver Zoo is Free on Your Birthday

The Denver Zoo is offering FREE admission to visitors on their actual birthdays plus a FREE junior ice cream cone, a ride on the zoo’s Conservation Carousel and a souvenir button. Parents of a young celebrant can buy a present in the gift shop at 10% off. To qualify, pre-register online. The zoo then E-mails a ticket and confirmation message that must be brought to the main entrance, along with proof of birth date. The zoo says that acceptable IDs include a driver’s license with a photo or government-issued photo ID, passport, birth certificate or photo school ID. The Rocky Mountain Bird Observatory hosts its annual ” BBQ With the Birds” at Barr Lake on Saturday, August 28, 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Learn about birds, birding and bird banding. Find your inner James Audubon with a workshop on bird sketching, or take a workshop on birding by ear, grassland birds or landscaping for birds. Now is a good time for landscaping guidance, since garden centers and nurseries are running sales. The RMBO event also includes vendors and silent and live auctions. Adult admission is $12 ($10 for members); children, $5 (under 5 FREE). The RMBO’s Old Stone House is at Barr Lake but outside of the park, so there is no park entry fee. For 82 years Littleton residents have been holding a community celebration. This year’s Western Welcome Week is actually an 11-day fest, August 11 to 22. The event schedule is so jam-packed it prints out at six-pages single spaced. Some highlights for true cheapskates. Running every day of the festival is the Friends Bag of Books Sale at the Bemis Public Library. Used books will be sold for $3 a bag (and they even provide the bags!). Friday, Aug. 13 is a FREE concert at Sterne Park capped off by fireworks at 9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14 is the Bin Bonanza Art Sale with canvas after canvas of unframed art work sold on the lawn of the Depot Art Center & Gallery (2069 W.
